Where should the. 2018 AGM be held?« Back to Questions List

Rheged proved very popular with owners attending AGM 2017. Should we go back there again? If not where in the UK would be better; reasonable cost, easy access, and offering such good facilities?

I understand Central London is the chosen location for the April 2018 AGM – not too sure anyone actually read any of the comments above when selecting the venue. I’m not sure London was what was intended as a Southern Location when it was suggested.

The Midlands as a relatively central point seems the fairest, plus video link would be useful for those not able to attend, although unsure how this would work as a means of controlling the input from those wishing to express their questions/observations in ”live” mode.

Rheged was well attended (no doubt numbers were boosted by those staying at Underscar), but although we were willing to travel further North, we understand the reticence re this venue for those living in the South.

Nevertheless the larger attendance at Rheged provided the opportunity for wider debate/discussion and the means to address ongoing concerns to a broader captive audience.

Thanks for your responses. We did a demographic some years ago and the fulcrum point is Birmingham/Stafford, which is why we have held many AGMs near Stafford. As you can imagine, owners living in the North, Scotland and the South have complained about the distance they have to travel. Penrith drew plaudits from the north and criticism from the south. The responses above favour the Birmingham/London corridor. We are considering holding the next AGM in central London. Other Clubs do this and the meetings are well attended, people making a weekend of it. But that won’t suit many and so we propose alternating between the Midlands, North and London. We will also be looking at the possibility of video links so that we can have more than one venue. We will have to check whether this is legal for incorporated Company AGM. Any more comments are welcome. Peter Allen, Chairman

Please respond to the points raised by Fangio 24. Surely the Midlands must be more accessible to a wider spread of owners.

Can anyone answer the question posed by fangio24 and myself about the geographic spread of owners and using that to guide AGM location?

We’ve never yet been able to attend an AGM simply due to geographical location. Living down in South East Wales, I like the suggestions of a venue in the Midlands area…..Oxford or Birmingham would be ideal..good road links from much of the Uk.

Within the limits of the need for AGM at a specific time, if it was primarily at Rheged (say 2 years out of 3), but moving between weeks in the April / May period, then a wide variety of owners could attend during their stay. What is the geographic mix of owners?

It would be interesting to know how many of the record attendance was made up with owners taking their week at Underscar. Take them out and and the 100 plus who attended the Stafford meeting last year looks pretty good to me . It also laughable to say Penrith is in the middle of the country and also it does not take in in the problems of getting there from the south of the country while the north and Scotland have on the whole have easy drives., those in the south have to battle with the likes of the M1 and M6 as well as the extra distances.
Because I live in Kent why am I realistically disenfranchised from attending if you persist in holding meetings at Penrith.
I think the midlands is a good compromise giving us all a chance to attend.. Stafford seems to me a suitable choice.
It would be interesting to know the demographics of where owners live.. If the vast majority live in the north then us southerners should expect the majority of meetings to be held in the north, but if there is a much wider distribution of ownership then the Midlands seems a logical choice for the meeting

If Rheged is used again, please ensure there is no other meeting taking place as parking was difficult! Alternating North & South seems to be a fair solution. Easy access to motorways always helps.

Agree with the majority of posts so far, namely alternate north and south, with Aylesbury/Milton Keynes as ”reachable” for south – jjn

Rheged was an excellent venue with easy motorway access but I appreciate it may not suit owners living in the South. Having said that it was obviously a very popular venue shown by record attendance.

Rheged is too far for us, it would have to be at a location south of Birmingham to entice us to attend.

I agree to Rheged being fixed. It’s central(ish) geographically and a fixed base is easier to plan around.

Alternating Rheged and a southern venue for the AGM seems the fairest option.

As we’re in Maidenhead, we’ve also never been to an AGM as it is too far – to get to and back the Stafford venue is a 5 hour drive – that doesn’t count as down South to us! Milton Keynes or Oxford would be much better. Iris Morgan & Stewart Robertson

We’re Herts residents and would attend AGM’s if they were within striking distance of our home. Rotation seems a fairer idea and Milton Keynes would work for us. As suggested elsewhere though there may be better ’southern’ venues.

Living in Kent we are bound to request somewhere we can get to and from in a day – Milton Keynes suggestion would be fine. But happy to alternate between North and Midlands venue if majority goes for that. Alan and Pauline Buckett

It is all very well having the AGM near Underscar for the reason suggested but I would hope that the northerners would accept that there must be a good number of people down south who just cannot make that journey for an afternoon’s AGM. I would like to suggest that the AGM should be held up north and down south on alternative years. By down south, I do not mean south of London but somewhere in the region of Oxford so that the M40 would offer easy access for those who do want to travel from the Midlands and elsewhere in the south. Bicester/Aylesbury might be good places to research. R Memmott

As Rheged proved very popular by having the biggest attendance at an AGM. With easy access for those travelling from Scotland and the North of England it also gave those owners who have their week at Underscar a chance to attend.
