Environmental concerns - arising from our electricity usage« Back to Questions List

I recently queried our utility bill as the electricity usage seemed very high and having moved house recently we've been keeping a keen eye on our home usage. By way of example for a 196 sq m house with many non LED lights, several TVs and pcs etc permanently on standby we use between 55 and 70 units per week. For our week at Underscar we used (wait for it) .......163 units when we were out a lot of the time and there was just the two of us staying (usually we have guests or visitors). I'm told our high usage is because of underfloor heating (which can't be turned off only turned down) and the Quooker. Surely we shouldn't be installing such energy hungry items in the current climate? I can't find any environmental policy for the site, which is a shame, but I have suggested smart meters for gas and electric might be helpful at least. Are there any plans to try to make the site more environmentally friendly?

A question for the committee , can the underfloor heating in the bathrooms be better thermostatically controlled so that they can default to a minimum operational temperature?
Would this require another visible thermostat control for the underfloor heating so that owners or renters have flexibility in this regard?

We were informed by the maintenance staff that the underfloor heating currently could not be turned OFF completely as it takes too long to reheat the concrete floor.

Are there any plans to provide this flexibility for an underfloor thermostat and if so has it been costed?

Could the DEFAULT be to turn the underfloor thermostat down to minimum by the cleaners (as exists with the main heating system, ) and thereafter advise all owners or renters that they can adjust these temps themselves as required?

Another question relates to the programming of these stats….. We read on another thread that a heating programmer facility had been removed? Has this been actioned across all lodges and if so what has been the reasoning behind this decision?
Someone posted that they were concerned that without a programmer facility they had to alter the stat first thing in the morning and last thing at night.

We would be grateful for further transparency regarding all of the above.

Many thanks.

I too have queried the utility bill. One person staying there, don’t use washing machine or dryer cupboard, hardly use the cooker as eating out and heating on occasionally. £50!!
