Summer 2021 in Keswick

Early Summer in Keswick at last, and what a welcome time for us all as nature forges ahead, giving us all hope for the future.

The birds are so busy feeding their young now, the lambs are growing fast and frolicking in the fields, the red squirrels are courting, and the summer flowers push through after the glory of spring.   We know things remain challenging visiting places right now, but if you do get chance to come to the North Lakes here’s a few ideas for your trip.

Take a walk

Of course we believe the Lake District National Park is THE place to go for a walk!  Whether you’re a Wainwright-bagger, a low level fell rambler, or a lakeside potterer, whatever you choose you’ll be surrounded by extraordinary views and lungfuls of our famous fresh air.

One of our favourites from Underscar is the walk up Latrigg, just behind Underscar.  Head out of the back of Underscar onto the Cumbria Way and its about 2 miles to Latrigg.   Climb up the hill to the viewing point and enjoy views across Keswick in the valley below and across to Derwentwater.

The amazing fells that surround Keswick can be your playground, and here’s a few ideas from our friends at the National Trust Lake District:

Catbells:  The Lair of the wildcat and perfect little mountain.

Brandelhowe: An easy lakeside amble along the shores of Derwentwater.

Friar’s Crag and Derwentwater foreshore – another lakeshore amble with beautiful views.

Enjoy our fabulous food and drink

Our pubs, restaurants and cafes are in full swing outdoors and in, so take your pick of where to sit, eat, drink and be merry!   Just come dressed warmly or with a blanket or two, and you can enjoy the hospitality! Head across to our blog about our favourite food and drink for some ideas.

Stock up the fridge

When you arrive on your break,  head to our local food shops and specialists shops all of which are open – such as Booths or the Co-op in Keswick and stock up on lots of delicious Cumbrian Food.

We have also set up a partnership with ‘A Day’s Walk’ a fantastic local family business who procure Cumbrian food and supply it to holiday cottage visitors, and locals alike.  Whether you fancy Herdwick Lamb, Bowness Ale, or local cheeses and chutney, they can bring it to your door.

If you use USTEA when you check out you’ll receive a free box of Farrer’s Lakeland Teabags (orders of over £40 (delivery extra)

Head to our on-site Bar and Bistro
